30 Years Public and Private Sector Advocacy

From Public Service to Private Consultant

With a Bachelor of Science degree in City and Regional Planning and  a Master's Degree in Public Administration, David Watson began his professional planning career in the public sector working in municipal government for the City of Pismo Beach where as the Director of Public Services, and Public Works he managed the departments of  Planning, Building, Engineering, Public Works, Recreation and Redevelopment.

As a progression of his early career in Public Services Administration, in 1989 Mr. Watson launched his private practice, Watson Planning Consultants, serving public and private sector clients, including the City of Pismo Beach.

Storm damaged Pismo Municipal Pier was restored and rebuilt with new boardwalks under Watson's leadership and direction in 1984.

WPC Generates Successful Options and Results

The keys to WPC's history of obtaining optimal results for its clients are Watson's abilities to generate and present clear, concise, viable options; formulate and implement strategic plans; and to respectfully build a consensus for solutions to resolve complex land issues between even disparate entities. With a reputation for "getting things done" and as a skilled facilitator and group mediator, Mr. Watson works individually and collaboratively to advocate for WPC's clients to win approvals and entitlements.

Established Professional Network

Experience with politics, policy, procedures and an extensive network of accessible contacts, connections, associates, colleagues and elected and appointed decision makers on both sides of the Community Development and Planning & Building Department counters over the course of three decades have provided the foundation and perspectives that enable WPC to provide reliable, timely, and cost-effective expert staffing assistance to budget-challenged public entities and agencies. Likewise, WPC expertly assists, advocates for and represents private landowners, real estate developers, stakeholders, business owners and operators, legal, engineering and architectural firms, and real estate professionals.

Development Team Strategic Plan Leader

Whether you are an experienced developer or novice home remodeler, or just dealing with a nagging building permit or violation issue, stressful, frustrating and costly challenges can arise when attempting to juggle multiple technical discipline professionals' services and appease government agencies within a limited budget and timeframe.  Missteps, a learning curve and not knowing exactly who to hire or when, can lead to wasted money and time and redundant, ineffective and inefficient work products that hinder your project's progress and success.
Choosing WPC as your Development Team Leader to select, coordinate, manage, coach and provide written reports on the technical team's progress consistent with the strategic game plan and the required regulatory agency approvals, offers you the advantages and efficiency of a constant, capable, experienced,  reliable point of communication and control.  Working together with WPC at the helm allows you creative and comprehensive control of your project from inception through completion with relative freedom from time consuming technical details and headaches.
